Job Corps’ mission is to assist eligible youth to connect to the labor force by providing comprehensive and integrated academic, career technical, workforce preparation and independent living skills and support services leading to: Successful careers in in-demand industry sectors or occupations or the Armed Services that will result in economic self-sufficiency and opportunities for advancement; Enrollment in postsecondary education, including an apprenticeship program leading to long-term attachment to the labor force; and Responsible citizenship.

Description of Duties:

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Academic and Career Technical Training program to ensure maximum outcomes: Oversee staff members assigned to this department. Ensure staff members have adequate training to complete key areas of responsibilities. Develop and implement training plan for staff. Provide documented training to staff. Cross-train department employees. Coordinate staff meetings. Ensure that all staff participates in CMT. Ensure department is compliant with all safety standards and expectations to include proper workmen’s compensation reporting. Ensure department is in compliance with all DOL, Corporate, and Center requirements. Ensure that staff members meet the standards and expectations of the Department of Labor, Corporate and Center policies. Ensure the Center’s Academic program delivers quality services to the students to ensure their growth and development in all CSS. Implement a rigorous and relevant Applied Academics program along with the Career Services Manager. Ensure that the Academic program meets or exceeds the HSD/HSE, combination completer, numeracy and literacy, and other relevant OMS goals. Monitor student training to ensure students are receiving quality services. Develop, plan and implement strategy to improve outcome of Trades with performance rating of C or less and hold staff accountable. Ensure that all CTT Staff are at least meeting their OMS performance goals or have documentation of their plan to accomplish said goals with specific plan and time line(s). Provide Department Director with status updates and plan changes as applicable. Continue to work toward improving processes within CTT and WBL to facilitate performance compliance as required by Center SOPs and DOL requirements. Ensure compliance with the Center SOPs & DOL requirements, i.e. WBL hours, TAR management and completion.

  • Communicate with and update the CDSS Director on the status of the program and determines educational policies according to DOL, Corporate and Center expectations: Submit weekly reports outlining progress, problems, and contemplated changes in the department. Meet jointly with Academic, CTT, and Career Services Staff to plan Applied Ensure that there is a curriculum for every training area. Ensure that lesson plans are being developed and implemented at least every other week. Write and develop appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), CDSS plan, Center training plans, corrective action plans, and other plans as appropriate. Meet regularly with Academic & CTT staff and ensure minutes are accurate.

  • Monitor students’ participation and performance, and establish common linkages to enhance program: Review all IEPs submitted. Counsel students as appropriate. Provide individualized academic plans based on students’ abilities before they leave the Career Preparation Phase.

  • Monitor statistical performance and student accountability for classes: Develop and maintain a list of substitute instructors and Review Center/JCRL and OMS reports and reconcile appropriately. Develop corrective action plans as needed. Review attendance sheets for accuracy of documentation. Ensure that ESPs are done accurately, completely and in a timely manner. Observe classes and monitors effectiveness of classroom management.

  • Monitor budget and related areas for assigned department and maintain spending limits: Track spending of staff each Provide feedback for under/over spending. Ensure that all equipment assigned to department is properly accounted for and maintained in good condition.

  • Develop Others: Establish high level of mutual trust and support with others. Express positive expectations of others, even in difficult situations. Create a learning atmosphere. Reassure and encourage performance improvement. Provide timely coaching. Identify successes and areas of improvement. Delegate tasks or responsibilities for the purpose of developing others’ abilities. Rewards good performance and promote employee recognition. Ensure that departmental staff completes all DOL, Corporate and Center training as required and demonstrates competencies accordingly. Participate on an SGA committee. Develop a Work-based Learning site in the department.

  • Display management effectiveness: Build pride and commitment though effective teamwork and collaboration: Adhere to established company policies and procedures, and support all Deliver timely coaching and conduct employee evaluations when scheduled. Make effective use of time, materials and resources by planning, scheduling and organizing work. Communicate in an open and honest manner. Set appropriate performance goals for staff.

  • Demonstrate excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills: Hire and promote employees based on sound decision-making ability: Improve processes within department, emphasizing quality and efficiency. Anticipate and resolve problems, demonstrating good judgment. Provide leadership in developing and implementing solutions.

Required Skills

Education and Experience

HSD/GED required, Bachelor’s Degree in related field and supervisory experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education and related experience will be considered in lieu of formal education

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

Valid state driver’s license;

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
