Job Description


  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, relevant field of study or equivalent years of related work experience required

Work Experiences:

  • 4+ years of related experience required, including 2+ years of experience in instructional design

  • Experience leading the design and development of course-level projects required


  • Exceptional knowledge of adult learning and instructional design principles

  • Ability to strategically anticipate, plan, and implement solutions in a timely manner by driving results through others

  • Proficient using eLearning authoring tools, such as Adobe Captivate

  • Knowledge and functional use of multimedia development tools, such as Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Soundbooth and Flash

  • Ability to clearly and concisely explain a complicated procedure in a simple and understandable manner

  • Ability to build credibility through integrity, business acumen, social awareness and professional expertise

  • Builds and nurtures business relationships with peers, leadership, subject matter experts, stakeholders and other key partners in the organization

  • Ability to partner with stakeholders to conduct formal needs analyses and plan, coordinate, and develop learning solutions and strategies

  • Ability to quantify return on investment by gathering and analyzing key metrics

  • Ability to created targeted assessments to gauge learners’ retention of course content

  • Ability to design courses applying a broad range of instructional technologies

  • Ability to remain organized, pay strict attention to detail, and meet critical deadlines within a high volume, fast-paced environment

  • Strong writing skills with focused attention to details

  • Proficient knowledge of content development and learning technology to be able to QA material

  • Exhibits interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to interface professionally with individuals at all levels within the organization

  • Excels at managing individual or team workload as part of a project or across multiple simultaneous projects

  • Ability to make good business decisions with little to no direction from management

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications


  • Professionally represents Academy Sports + Outdoors and the Learning and Development team in interactions with customers, internal clients, and business partners

  • Partner with developers, technology specialist, subject matter experts, and stakeholders to support and manage development projects and the use of learning technology across the organization

  • Conduct research to gain insight before starting on a project or programs

  • Consult with program owners, subject matter experts and stakeholders to design learning that maximizes knowledge transfer

  • Conduct needs analyses, design, and develops learning objectives to meet the needs of stakeholders

  • Partner with project owner to schedule and facilitate kick-off and post evaluation meetings

  • Perform quality assurance testing of development work

  • Assist peers in identifying opportunities to enhance learning engagement, efficiency, and outcome through use of instructional strategies

  • Direct the production of audio and video to support various training initiatives, as needed

  • Ensure timely execution of high quality deliverables while adhering to all internal and external deadlines

  • Identify and recommend ways to improve content operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and maximize resources

  • Research and evaluate new training methods and instructional technologies

  • Mentors department Learning Content Developers and/ Learning Technology Specialists by providing best practices, application of industry trends, content reviews, one-on-one coaching and team collaboration.

  • Handle emergent situations with an appropriate sense of urgency

  • Learn and follow company policies, procedures, and safety rules

  • Develop a thorough understanding of Academy policies, procedures and safety rules

  • Responsibilities may change; team members may be required to perform other tasks as assigned

  • Flexible to local or occasional overnight travel.

  • Available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed
